Guildford Spectrum Leisure Complex has launched an initiative encouraging primary school children to get active.

Launched by fitness enthusiast and tv presenter, Anthea Turner, the Junior Summer Fitness Challenge aims to encourage hundreds of local children to increase the amount of exercise they get throughout the summer holidays at no cost to their parents.

To participate, children need to register at Spectrum to accept the challenge and then stay as physically active as they can during their summer break.

Each child will receive a free activity pack which contains fitness tips as well as a fitness diary to track their activities.

For every 10 activities they complete, they can collect a free reward at Spectrum and, if they complete the full challenge of 30 activities over the summer, they receive a medal, certificate and junior Family Fun ticket to use at the Spectrum centre.

The challenge has received the backing of sports minister, Richard Caborn. “This is a great way of encouraging young people to stay active during the summer holidays,” he said. “I hope that the children who take part will realise that sport is great fun, as well as a terrific way of staying fit.”
