New South Wales is set to get the biggest tourism project in its history, following an agreement between Wyong Shire Council and The Australian Chinese Theme Park Pty Ltd (ACTP).

The 15.7 hectare site has been sold for AUS$10m to build a AUS$500m theme park, incorporating a full size replica of the gates to the Forbidden City in Beijing and a giant Buddha.

“What this proposal will do is turn the Wyong Shire into a tourist mecca and bring millions of dollars worth of tourism into the area, which will have a flow on effect to the entire region’s economy,” says Mayor Doug Eaton. “Outside the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, this has the potential to be among the biggest tourist attractions in the State.”
