THFC posts 'consistent' half-year results

By Pete Hayman    29 Mar 2010

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club (THFC) has reported a "broadly consistent" performance for the six months to 31 December 2009, with revenues of £53.5m for the period.

Compared with the same period last year, overall revenues fell by 2.6 per cent as a result of a decline in sponsorship and corporate hospitality income incurred by a lack of European competition. However, THFC posted increases in gate receipts; merchandising income and media and broadcasting revenue, while operating expenses decreased by £1.4m to £48.6m.

THFC chair Daniel Levy said: "It has been important that we have operated with strict financial planning and controls and that any debt we incur as a result of our increased activities is kept at manageable and prudent levels." Meanwhile, Rangers Supporters Trust (RST) is reportedly working on a bid to purchase Sir David Murray's majority shareholding in Glasgow Rangers Football Club (GRFC).

According to the BBC, an 'exploratory document' is currently being drawn up with a view to acquiring the Scottish Premier League club, although the RST stressed any bid is still in its early stages. Coca-Cola Football League Two outfit AFC Bournemouth has confirmed that it has paid around £350,000 to HM Revenue and Customs in order to meet outstanding tax debts.

A transfer embargo imposed by the Football League has been lifted as a result of the payment, although all transfer activity will be monitored until August 2011 as the result of an agreement made when the club came out of administration in August 2008. Weymouth Football Club (WFC), which currently competes in the Blue Square South, has confirmed that creditors have agreed to a company voluntary arrangement (CVA).

It is hoped the CVA will help to safeguard the long term future of the Dorset club, which has been subject to ongoing financial difficulties for a number of months. Histon Football Club (HFC), which competes in the Blue Square Premier has confirmed police are currently investigating claims of "certain irregularities" relating to the club's finances.

A HFC spokesperson said: "Having carried out a full investigation of the football club's financial affairs, certain irregularities have come to light concerning the previous administration of the club."
