The city's wellness attraction is due to open in 2030

Therme Group has appointed Tan Boon Khai as CEO of Therme Group Singapore, where he will lead the development of the group’s urban wellbeing destination at the city’s Marina South Coastal site.

Therme Singapore will be a S$1 billion (US$768 million, €664 million, £507 million) wellness attraction with a 4-hectare footprint on the waterfront, next to Marina Bay Sands resort and the famous botanical attraction, Gardens by the Bay.

The Singapore Tourism Board signed off on the tender in November last year, with Therme Singapore scheduled to open in 2030. Therme Group expects the desination to attract around two million visitors a year at full capacity, with around half from overseas.

A lawyer by training, Boon Khai has more than 30 years' experience working in Singapore’s public and private sectors across project development and operations.

Prior to joining Therme Group, he was CEO of JTC Corporation, a Singaporean government agency that develops sustainable industrial infrastructure.

Boon Khai has also served as chief executive of the Singapore Land Authority and senior vice president at real estate management group CapitaLand. He was promoted from his position of regional general manager for CapitaLand’s operations subsidiary, Ascott Limited, which is an international owner-operator of more than 1,000 hotels and serviced residences in 40 countries.

Boon Khai said: “I'm honoured to join Therme Group at such an exciting and pivotal moment in its global journey. Singapore is uniquely positioned to become a leading hub for urban wellbeing in Asia, and I look forward to working closely with our partners and stakeholders to bring Therme Singapore’s vision to life – creating a world-class destination that enhances quality of life for both locals and visitors.”

Dr Robert Hanea, founder and CEO, Therme Group, said, “We warmly welcome Boon Khai as a key member of Therme Group, as we embark on our global expansion, building on the success of Therme’s social wellness infrastructure over the last 15 years. Boon Khai brings with him a proven track record in development, management and hospitality. We're delighted that he's joined us in developing the next evolution of Therme’s wellness experience in Singapore, and bringing wellness to all locals and visitors in Singapore and the surrounding region.”
