Nine injured in Tayto Park staircase collapse
An investigation has been launched after nine people were injured when a set of stairs collapsed inside a haunted house at Ireland’s Tayto Park.
The accident happened on 22 October at the theme park in Ashbourne, County Meath, during an after-dark Halloween event.
The Health and Safety Authority has confirmed it has launched an investigation into the incident. The park reopened yesterday (23 October), with the Horror House remaining closed.
“On Saturday (22 October) the lower portion of a permanent staircase leading to The House of Horrors gave way,” said a statement from the operator.
"The Tayto Park emergency plan was immediately put in place and the emergency services attended the scene. Nine people were transported to hospitals in the city as a precautionary measure to assess their injuries.
"The management of Tayto Park will co-operate fully with the investigation as the safety of our guests is paramount."
