Team to design Olympic Park unveiled
David Higgins, chief executive of the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), has announced that the EDAW consortium has been selected as the team to design the Olympic Park for the 2012 Games.
The Park will house key venues for the Games – including the Olympic stadium and the aquatics centre – and will kick-start the regeneration of the Lower Lea Valley in east London.
Chosen following a tendering process, the consortium comprises of urban design consultancy EDAW, Structural engineers Buro Happold, Foreign Office Architects, construction company HOK Sport and architects Allies Morrison.
“Getting the infrastructure and landscape right is a key task for the OD over the next two years,” said Higgins.
“When completed, this work will create a major new park for London which, after the Games, will become a new quarter of the capital fro Londoners to live, work and play in.”
The consortium, which also produced the masterplan which won the Olympic bid, will be responsible for designing the infrastructure of the Park – including everything from roads and waterways to drainage and utilities – but will not design the Olympic venues or the Athletes’ Village, which will be tendered separately.
