Gaia Retreat opens at Northern Rivers
The Gaia Retreat and Spa at Brooklet, located in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales (NSW) in Australia, has been opened by NSW tourism minister Sandran Nori and actress Olivia Newton-John – one of the spa’s directors.
The AUS$5m (£2.1m, E3m, US$3.9m) retreat boasts 20 bedrooms, a private restaurant and a day spa.
Managed and operated by the Gaia Group, the resort’s Amala day spa has four treatment rooms, sauna, yoga and tai chi studios.
Facilities include a tennis court, a heated salt water swimming pool and an outdoor heated spa pool.
Treatments at the Amala spa include therapeutic relaxation massages, hot rock massages, facials, reiki, hydrotherapy, body wraps and ayurvedic Indian head massages.
Signature treatments include the traditional Hawaiian Kuhuna massage and guests are also offered naturopathic consultations.
The spa’s treatment rooms can be altered to accommodate couples for simultaneous treatments.
Gaia Retreat – which took 18 months to build – has received support from the Tourism New South Wales for the project, as the resort hopes to create around 30 jobs in the area.
The directors are also hoping that up to 85 per cent of the 50 suppliers used by the resort will be from the region.
