Leisure industry well represented in Birthday Honours
The Queen’s Birthday Honours list featured several representatives from the leisure industry, including knighthoods for Nick Faldo for services to golf, William Hastings, chair of Hastings Hotels, for services to tourism in Northern Ireland, and former BHA president Garry Hawkes for services to business and vocational training.
CBEs were awarded to Michael Brace, lately chair of Paralympics GB, to Peter King, lately chief executive of the British Cycling Federation and Dr Juliet Williams for services to tourism.
OBEs were awarded to Patrick Casement of the National Trust’s committee for Northern Ireland ; Dr Margaret Faull, director of the National Coal Mining Museum for England; Jennifer Lomax, director of the Camden Arts Centre; Sylvia Smith, president of the National Association of Swimming Clubs for People with Disabilities and Anthony Yorke, national manager of the Paralympic Cycling Team.
MBEs went to Alice Avis, chair of Sanctuary Spa Group; Andrew Bennett, food and beverage manager at the Park Lane Hotel; William Bratt, chair of Port Vale FC; Gareth Fitzpatrick, director of the Living Landscape Trust and chief executive of the Heritage Education Trust and Richard Holdsworth, museum and heritage director for Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust.
