£5m Tameside park restoration scheme underway
Tameside Council has announced that work is now underway on a £5m scheme to revitalise Stamford Park between Ashton-under-Lyne and Stalybridge.
The project, which has received nearly £4m from the Heritage Lottery Fund, will include the creation of a new pavilion building with a café, community rooms and information point. A new water feature; an animal and aviary area; and a crazy golf course are also planned, in addition to restored Victorian features and the planting of new trees.
Tameside Works First-registered firm Caseys has been awarded the contract for the scheme, which is designed to ensure the park becomes more sustainable. Kieran Quinn, executive leader of Tameside Council, said: "The restoration will celebrate the park's historic features and charm while providing something exciting and sustainable for the future."
