James Corner Field Operations and erect architecture have been announced as the successful designers who will lead the creation of two new public spaces at London's Olympic Park.

It follows a design competition held by the Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC), which saw five teams shortlisted for both the proposed North Park and South Park schemes.

New York, US-based James Corner Field Operations has been appointed to design the South Park project, which aims to create a urban landscape similar to the capital's South Bank.

The group's design comprised a tree-lined promenade linking flexible spaces for the hosting of events, cultural programmes, food stalls and other visitor attractions.

Meanwhile, the North Park area will be designed by London-based erect architecture and will feature a community hub integrated into parkland, with a playground also proposed.

OPLC chief executive Andrew Altman said: "These spaces will be one of the first new public spaces and facilities added to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park."

London mayor Boris Johnson added: "These inspiring public spaces will be at the centre of the new communities that are rising in this brand new quarter of the capital."
