Warner to chair 2017 organising committee

By Pete Hayman    13 Feb 2012

UK Athletics (UKA) chair Ed Warner has been appointed to lead the London 2017 IAAF World Athletics Championship organising committee, having fronted the successful bid.

Warner's appointment was made by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the mayor of London. A vice-chair and remaining board members are yet to be named.

In his role as London 2017 chair, Warner will submit a proposed corporate structure and governance framework to the IAAF, while also helping to appoint the rest of the board.

Sports minister Hugh Robertson said: "The appointment of Ed Warner to chair the organising committee builds on the great work done by him and UK Athletics to win the bid."
