A new plastic reduction campaign aimed at spas, resorts and spa suppliers has been unveiled by the Green Spa Network (GSN) in partnership with The Plastic Pollution Coalition.
The 11-month GSN Plastic Reduction Challenge is designed to encourage the industry to cut down the usage of disposable plastics - such as bags, food items and product packaging.
Spas and suppliers are now invited to register for the challenge, with prizes to be awarded to winners in seven different categories on Earth Day 2013, which will take place on 22 April.
The award categories are: Most Innovative Solution; Biggest Impact - for size of a facility; Local Impact - within a state; Global Impact; and Alternative Product Packaging.
Plastic Reduction Pioneers and Most Comprehensive - by number of categories, including employee plastic usage are the other two categories that form part of the challenge.
GSN president and Rancho La Puerta, US, managing director Roberto Arjona said: "This effort underscores the very purpose of GSN's existence.
"It's our responsibility to take a leadership role with proactive measures that promote the health and wellbeing of not only our fellow humans, but also the planet we all share."
