An arts complex in Canberra, Australia, is to undergo an upgrade programme after the ACT state government allocated AU$3.1m (US$3m, EUR2.4m, £2m) in its 2012-13 Budget towards the scheme.

Planned improvements include the installation of new seating in Canberra Theatre Centre's Playhouse and Courtyard Studio, as well as enhanced backstage amenities for performers.

ACT minister for the arts Joy Burch said: "ACT is committed to ensuring that Canberrans continue to have access to performances of a national and international standard."
