US$220m Miami art museum to launch in December
A new multi-million dollar Miami art museum is set to open in December that will anchor a 29-acre Museum Park featuring public gardens and sculpture installations.
The new Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) will offer 200,000 sq ft (18,580sq ft) of programmable space, including 120,000 sq ft (1,292 sq m) of interior space.
Designed by Swiss-based architects Herzoq & de Meuron, the three-story building will sit upon an elevated platform and below a canopy, both will extend beyond the museum's walls, creating a shaded veranda and plazas.
The architects will use this space to "bring the park into the museum" and create outdoor spaces that will bridge the museum, park, and city.
Overlooking Biscayne Bay, the museum's 80,000sq ft (7,432sq m) of exterior program space will be used for the display of works of art, educational activities, relaxation and dining.
The permanent collection galleries will be located on the first and second level, which will also house temporary exhibition galleries.
The building will also house an educational complex for visitors to learn about art and art-making, with a library, auditorium, classrooms, art and digital media workshop spaces and a restaurant.
Miami Economic Associates predict an annual attendance of 220,000 with an economic impact of US$37m (£23.5m, 27.4m euro) annually.
