Wyre Council in Lancashire has received planning permission for new health, fitness, sports and leisure facilities in Poulton and Thornton.

As part of the £5.1m project, Thornton's centre, on Victoria Road East, will house a ten-pin bowling alley, indoor skate park and two outside floodlit 3G sports pitches. A new gym and fitness studio facilities will also make it one of the largest on the Fylde Coast.

The Poulton site, on Breck Road, will be boosted by a new and enhanced gym, fitness studio space and new changing and shower facilities, plus a new state-of-the-art spa with aqua-thermal journey featuring aromatherapy steam and a spa pool.

Work by contractors ISG is expected to start in early spring 2014 and be completed by the end of the year. Both centres - operated by YMCA Fylde Coast on behalf of the council - will remain open while construction takes place.
