World's longest skywalk opens in China
A record-breaking glass skywalk has opened to tourists at Longgang National Geological Park in China, offering an architectural and engineering feat as the longest in the world.
Jutting out over a 1,010m (3,313ft) chasm, Yuanduan (Chinese for ‘at the end of the clouds’) is 26.68m (94.09ft) in length – five metres longer than the Grand Canyon’s skywalk – and is designed to withstand an 8.0 magnitude earthquake and a level-14 typhoon.
The CN¥35m (US$5.6m, €5m, £3.6m) structure has the ability to host 200 people at one time, but the park has opted to limit that number to 30 to guarantee an enjoyable guest experience. Also included in the development is a see-through mountain pathway. The attraction was developed by the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government.
