A number of attractions in Tampa, Florida have been given a funding boost by a local government authority.

The David A Straz Centre for the Performing Arts, The Florida Aquarium, ZooTampa and Tampa Theatre in Tampa, Florida will all receive portions of a financing pot from the local governing board of Hillsborough County for improvements to their sites.

The county’s Capital Asset Preservation Matching Grant Program will allocate US$1.65m (€1.4m, £1.3m) shared between the four venues.

The Straz Centre will receive US$487,500 (€423,881, £372,211), which it will put towards the refurbishment of its rehearsal hall, Patel dance floor, air conditioning, Ferguson Hall seating and elevator.

The aquarium will receive the same figure which it will use for the new Channelview Pavilion, which will add to its third-floor roof deck and limit adverse weather exposure.

ZooTampa will be allocated US$325,000 (€282,588, £248,140) and will put that money towards the relocation of its alligator area.

Meanwhile, Tampa Theatre will use its US$325,000 (€282,588, £248,140) funding for marquee messaging boards, stage lighting improvements, sound system improvements and a new stage rigging system.

MOSI, The Glazer Children's Museum and The Tampa Bay History Center were also eligible for this funding cycle but either chose not to do so or shared their allocation with another entity, according to county documents.
