Tennis marathon raises £4,500 for cancer charity
A 24-hour tennis marathon hosted by Edinburgh Leisure has raised more than £4,500 for Clic Sargent, the children’s cancer charity.
The event was launched by Judy Murray, mother of Andy Murray, who took to the court with nine-year-old Philip Blythe.
Behind Murray was a 4sq m banner – designed by competition winner 12-year-old Ellen Ward – wishing Andy good luck at Wimbledon, though his wrist injury subsequently prevented him from taking part in the championships.
The tennis marathon also included other fundraising activities such as prize draws, a bouncy castle, kids’ disco, bake sale, sponsored car wash, massage and tennis racquet exchange.
Event organiser Jenny Blythe said: “I have been overwhelmed by the incredible level of support shown by Edinburgh Leisure and, in particular, by the staff at Craiglockhart.
“This fantastic amount of money we’ve raised will mean much to Clic Sargent as they strive to help more children like Philip beat this wretched disease.”
