Tennis participation increase during Wimbledon
There has been a rise in people taking part in tennis across the nation, fuelled by several programmes aimed at increasing participation in the sport off the back of the Wimbledon Championships.
One such programme has seen StreetGames team up with Sport England and the Lawn Tennis Association to make tennis accessible to young people with a Tennis Pop-Up Club programme.
The initiative started in mid-June and has seen 18 town and cities form 42 Tennis PopUp Clubs, engaging more than 760 young people with in excess of 250 hours of tennis expected to be played.
At the David Lloyd Leisure centre in Edinburgh, members were given the chance to play tennis with the legendary Greg Rusedski and Wayne Ferreira.
Eight people were selected after winning their place a tennis tournament to celebrate the Brodies Champions of Tennis Tour, which was held between 20-23 June.
To celebrate the start of Wimbledon, Virgin Active announced the opening their racquet clubs nationwide for free to non-members for the duration of the tournament and then an additional week after.
