Leyton Orient eye Olympic Stadium move

By Pete Hayman    19 Oct 2011

Leyton Orient Football Club (LOFC) has announced it has applied for permission from the Football League to relocate to London's Olympic Stadium following the 2012 Games.

It follows the collapse of the deal that would have seen West Ham United Football Club and Newham Council acquire the venue; a deal that LOFC had been strongly opposed to.

LOFC chair Barry Hearn said: "We have submitted an application for permission to move to the Football League, and that permission is something that West Ham don't yet have.

"It was the Premier League who gave them the green light to move in their original plan, but they are no longer members of the Premier League."

Earlier this month, the government said the venue will now remain in public ownership and will be made available to a tenant on a long-term lease basis.
