Tri-Golf gets the thumbs up from primary schools
Tri-Golf has been launched this autumn to introduce primary school pupils to the game of golf while also helping to develop core skills such as numeracy.
This term 16 primary schools will be using plastic clubs and Velcro balls which have been specially designed to be used in school halls.
The scheme has been launched by a partnership including Colchester Borough Council Leisure Services, The Gold Foundation and the Essex Gold Union.
Colchester Leisure Services hopes the introduction of Tri-Golf into schools will encourage children to lead healthier, more active life styles. “Tri-Golf appeals to many youngsters that have not previously considered themselves to be sporty,” said sports development officer Martin Beaver.
Jude Pearce, a teacher at Mersea Island School, which has introduced the scheme, said; “Our pupils have really responded well to the equipment and it has helped some our students with special educational needs to take part in new activities with the other children.”
Schools have purchased Tri-Golf bags with help from a sponsorship deal with HSBC.
