Two-tower KPF development features nine-storey habitable bridge
A new mixed-use development designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) will feature two metallic towers linked by a nine-storey habitable bridge.
Located in the Acton area of London, 4 Portal Way is being developed by Aldau Development, which is replacing an existing hotel that it owns on the site.
It will rise to 123m (404ft) at its highest level, with its two towers rising to 45 and 55 storeys and set into an adjoining base that will feature a rooftop terrace.
The development, on which KPF started working in 2018 but that does not yet have a completion date set, will accommodate 702 new homes (of which 35% will be affordable housing), a 159 room hotel, a co-working space and retail facilities.
Floor-to-ceiling glazing will be combined with textured, copper-coloured panelling, creating circuit-like façades on the faces of the geometrically shaped structure.
John Bushell, design principal at KPF, said: "4 Portal Way presents a great new opportunity for this part of London. KPF specialise in mixed used schemes and this brings to life our vision for a mixed use ‘hub’ with a hotel, flexible workspace, residential use and a public venue at the top of the building."
