UK Sport welcomes Drugs Report
UK Sport has welcomed the Culture, Media and Sport Committee’s report into drugs and role models in sport published on 15 July.
The report follows a series of hearings earlier this the year, at which chair Sue Campbell, and the acting director of Drug-Free Sport John Scott, presented evidence on behalf of UK Sport.
Chaired by Gerald Kaufman MP, the inquiry was set up to examine issues that included variations in anti-doping policies between different sports, the importance of sporting role models for the younger generation and the role of organisations involved in the fight for drug-free sport.
The inquiry concluded that a national tribunal service should be set up for the management of anti-doping cases, while more research is required to help pre-empt the misuse of drugs and more work should be done to use sporting role models to inspire the next generation.
Sue Campbell said: "We welcome the publication of this report. It highlights a number of interesting conclusions which will be of value to us as we continue to further develop and improve the UK’s anti-doping programme."
