UK government provides no-deal Brexit guidance for hospitality and tourism industry

By Tom Walker    03 Oct 2019
The guidance suggests each tourism and hospitality company takes 10 'important steps'

The UK government has provided a 10-point checklist for tourism and hospitality businesses in preparation for a no-deal Brexit on 31 October.

The guidance, designed to help businesses to "understand what you need to do" in the case of a no-deal Brexit, was published on 2 October – despite Prime Minister Boris Johnson's assurances that he is hard at work and negotiating a trade deal with the EU ahead of the 31 October deadline.

In the guidance, the government suggests each tourism and hospitality company takes 10 steps, which have been divided across four different areas of business: employees, data, travelling and customers.

The headline guidance – under the four topics – is as follows:

Your employees

Step 1 - Check if your employees need a visa or work permit and meet any requirements for visiting the country they’re going to for business purposes

Step 2 - Ask your employees to check if they need to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme

Step 3 - Prepare to recruit after Brexit

Data

Step 4 - Check if you need to change the way you access personal data from the EU/EEA

Step 5 - Get an EORI number that starts with GB to move your goods into or out of the EU

Step 6 - If you sell any services, such as tours and bookings, to those living in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland after Brexit, read further guidance to see what additional steps you may need to take

Travelling to Europe

Step 7 - Read the guidance: Visiting Europe after Brexit

Step 8 - Check if you need an International Driving Permit before you drive in the EU, EEA or Switzerland

Step 9 - Check what documents you need to run unscheduled bus or coach services in EU countries

Your customers

Step 10 - Provide clear information to international visitors travelling to the UK
