US$620m Freestyle Park for Moscow
Russia-based MT Development has announced that it will be building a new RUS16.8bn (US$620m, £406m, 472m euro) leisure attraction in the capital Moscow.
To be called Freestyle Park, the 280,000sq m (3 million sq ft) sport and leisure destination is expected to attract five million visits annually.
The attraction aims to cater for all ages by providing a range of events, from extreme sports to gaming facilities.
Activities will include a Snow Zone, Aqua Park, Entertainment Center, Centre of Entertaining Science and a Multi-screen Cineplex.
There will also be a luxury spa, hotel, retail and dining, and residential apartments.
The development will be anchored by the Snow Zone, a 39,000 sq m indoor facility that will include the longest indoor ski slope in the world.
At 900m long, the indoor slope will offer three skiing experiences with varying levels of difficulty, a snowboard slope, and training slopes for instructional purposes. A children’s snow area will also be included, housing a snow play park with snow sledding, tubing runs and ice-skating.
The snowmaking capability will be provided by UK-based Acer Snowmec.
The 9,000sq m Aqua Park will be located next to the Snow Zone. The indoor water park will include a surf pool, a long lazy river circulating the site, tubing rides, a wave pool, plunge slides, a two person surf simulator and a children’s play area.
The rest of the 30,000sq m space reserved for leisure will house a 9,000sq m entertainment center with a 20-lane bowling center and arcade; a 5,300sq m Centre for Entertaining Science, presenting scientific and natural phenomena in an interactive setting; a nine screen multiplex cinema; more than 14,000sq m of retail; 5,300sq m of restaurants, clubs and bars: and a 1,700sq m luxury spa, sauna and wellness center.
The centre's 300 room, 4-star hotel will be located adjacent to the Snow Zone and additional accommodation will be provided by 200 luxury apartments.
MT Development is working with Orlando, US-based Baker Leisure Group (BLG) on the project.
Headed by Steve Baker, a former director of resort sales art Disney, BLG's previous projects include the Coca- Cola Olympic City at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games; and the feasibility study on the Spanish theme park Terra Mitica.
