US museum goes head first into health
The HealthSpace Cleveland museum has a new attraction: an interactive multi-media experience which aims to build visitors’ decision-making skills.
The interior for the Head First! Theater is the work of Cincinnati company, Jack Rouse Associates, with the experience housed in a stylised human skull which dominates the three-storey atrium of the museum’s new facility. The skull’s exterior, built by Transformit, is animated with theatrical lighting and signage.
Inside, visitors are immersed in a setting which resembles a neural environment and invited to join a cast of animated characters who are trying to reach a consensus on challenging decisions.
Together, the cast and audience journey into a variety of scenarios in which characters are faced with health decisions, such as choosing whether or not to smoke.
Using humorous commentary, the cast provides different perspectives and poses questions to visitors who respond using themed hand-held devices.
Results are displayed anonymously and are designed to prompt debate among viewers. Details: www.jackrouse.com and www.healthmuseum.org
