Vaizey: Arts in line for Lottery cash boost
By Pete Hayman 20 Feb 2012
A projected growth in National Lottery ticket sales could generate more than £200m of extra funding for the UK arts sector over the next five years, according to arts minister Ed Vaizey.
According to the latest estimates, Vaizey said Arts Council England is set to receive £1.25bn of National Lottery income in addition to its grant-in-aid funding from the government.
Lottery funding is used by the arts agency to support additional projects outside its National Portfolio.
However, the Arts Council England still faces an overall cut in public funding due to a 29.6 per cent reduction in grant-in-aid support announced in late 2010.
Ed Vaizey was addressing the annual State of the Arts conference in Salford.
