Busch Gardens Williamsburg in Virginia, US, is to unveil one of its largest-ever attractions tomorrow (18 May) with the launch of the new indoor/outdoor multi-launch rollercoaster, Verbolten.
The immersive ride experience was first announced in September 2010 and is described as the "capstone attraction" of the two-year refurbishment of the park's Oktoberfest village.
Germany-based Zierer Karussell- und Spezialmaschinenbau manufactured Verbolten, which features two high-speed launches propelling riders in and out of the Black Forest.
Verbolten also incorporates a free-fall element and a 90ft (27m) traditional coaster drop over Busch Gardens' Rhine River. It recently underwent extensive testing ahead of its launch.
Each of the coaster train's 16 seats accommodated special "water dummies" to simulate the ride experience as part of the testing, before park employees participated in an actual ride.
Busch Gardens' vice president of operations Mark Pauls said: "We can't wait for everyone to experience this one-of-a-kind roller coaster. It's truly a special ride."
