The Virginia General Assembly, US, may change the definition of a “day spa” to include any establishment that offers barber or cosmetology services in order to allow customers of salon and barbershops to indulge in an alcoholic beverage or two.

A bill has been introduced, and will be taken up by the Virginia legislature in 2015, to allow the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control to grant liquor licenses to nail and hair salons.

The new day spa liquor license would specify that the salon or barbershop can only offer complimentary drinks to customers, not sell alcohol – and that no single customer can be served more than two drinks per visit.
