Health & Fitness Association launches new data resource for US fitness industry
The FIT Tracker is a rolling report tracking footfall across thousands of facilities
The first half of 2025 saw both visits and visit frequency increase
HVLP and mid-priced gyms are seeing the biggest gains

Visits to health clubs across all segments of the US fitness industry have risen this year, with HVLP and mid-priced gyms making the biggest gains.

According to the Fitness Industry Traffic (FIT) Tracker, a new report from the Health and Fitness Association (HFA), which analyses foot traffic data from thousands of gyms, studios and fitness clubs across the US, visits were up by 3.5 per cent in the first half of 2025 on average. Visit frequency has also increased by 1.4 per cent on 2024 levels.

“The increase in both overall visits and visit frequency once again highlights the critical role that fitness facilities play in helping people stay active and engaged in their health,” said Liz Clark, president and CEO of HFA.

“As more consumers make structured exercise a consistent part of their lifestyle, this data gives our industry valuable insight into how, where, and how often people are showing up.

“Many of our members and partners have asked for more real-time, data-driven insights and we’re excited to launch the FIT Tracker as a reliable and accessible resource that helps guide business decisions, investment strategies, and advocacy priorities.”

Developed in partnership with Sports Marketing Surveys USA and powered by Placer.ai., the FIT Tracker aggregates data by industry segment (HVLP, mid-priced, luxury and boutique) and includes breakdowns by region and certain demographics.

The inaugural edition covers visitation trends for the first half of 2025 and sets the foundation for tracking seasonal shifts, geographic patterns, and demographic trends over time.

This cheering news follows insights released in May that US penetration, when including non-members rose to 31 per cent last year.
