Vue, the cinema operator, has expanded its existing estate with the acquisition of two multiplexes from Cinemark International.

The sites, in Scunthorpe and Northampton, are currently branded and operated by UCI under a management agreement between UCI and Cinemark.

The Northampton multiplex boasts 10 screens with more than 2,500 seats, while the Scunthorpe sites has seven screens with more than 1,500 seats. Both opened in 2002.

Vue is currently developing its first two new-build multiplexes, in Thanet and Blackburn. Both are expected to open in 2005. The group is also looking at a further 12 sites for possible expansion over the next few years.

Following Vue’s acquisition of the Warner Village cinema chain in the UK, Vue is the second largest cinema operator in the UK, with the latest purchases taking the group to 41 sites.

The entire portfolio is currently undergoing a multi million pound revamp and rebranding program.
