WCC school sports programme launches
Westminster City Council (WCC) has unveiled a new school sports programme in a bid to boost participation by holding lessons at some of London's most iconic venues.
Marylebone Cricket Club chief executive Keith Bradshaw helped launch the new scheme at Lord's Cricket Ground, which is one of 10 Big Society projects planned by the council. It is hoped that leading football and rugby clubs will join the programme and open up their facilities to young people to take part in regular sport sessions.
The programme is also looking to recruit volunteers to help support and run extra-curricular clubs across central London, with additional coaching training to be made available. WCC cabinet member for communities Steve Summers said: "This is a great scheme that is about harnessing the power of leading sports clubs to encourage our young people to live more active and healthy lifestyles."
