Warriors teams up with Heinz to launch disability coaching scheme
Wigan Warriors has launched a new community initiative titled the Heinz Disability Coaching Programme.
The scheme, funded by Heinz, will aim to provide young people with a disability the opportunity to access the sport of Rugby League.
The scheme will run six weeks of rugby coaching in each of the special schools within the Wigan borough.
From this, every participant will be invited to take part in a disability awareness festival whereby children will be given the opportunity to learn and compete in the modified versions of the sport of Rugby League.
Furthermore the scheme, via two additional awareness days, will be opened up to all children within Wigan who have a disability and want to experience the sport.
The days will provide a unique opportunity for local people to try the sport for the first time whilst also finding out what additional sporting opportunities are available for people with a disability.
The days will be attended by members of the first team squad and the Wigan Wheelchair Rugby Club and will act as a flagship event for the sport.
