Wembley Stadium officials have confirmed that a new playing surface will be installed at the North London venue, following recent criticism.

Working in partnership with the Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI), work has already started on installing the new pitch at the 90,000-seat stadium. Wembley Stadium's pitch came in for criticism after a number of players lost their footing during the FA Cup Semi-Finals, but it is hoped the new surface will be ready in time for May's busy football schedule.

Starting with the FA Trophy Final between Stevenage Borough and Barrow football clubs on 8 May, Wembley Stadium is due to stage seven further fixtures - including the FA Cup Final and Football League playoff finals.
