Weymouth FC considers moving stadium
Weymouth Football Club has reopened discussions about moving to a new stadium in the town.
Wessex Delivery, which owns the land surrounding the Bob Lucas Stadium, is looking to build 200 houses on the site.
The club is in discussions to relocate to an area near Lodmoor tip, which was previously discussed in 2008.
The suggested plans for the 200-house development on the old site will be presented to the public as part of an early consultation project next month.
Chickerell Town councillors have previously raised concerns about the loss of land designated for leisure, loss of a green gap between Southill and Chickerell and that the new development would be isolated from the rest of Chickerell.
Weymouth FC spokesperson Paul Cocks said: “The discussions about a possible move are at a very early stage. Any move must provide the club with a better stadium than that which they currently occupy, and must provide guarantees as to land ownership.”
