Wigan Council unveils pool consultation
Wigan Council has invited local residents to comment on the future of two swimming pools - Tyldsley and Hindley - amid increasing constraints on its financial resources.
Councillors have been mulling plans for the ongoing operation of the facilities for more than five years against the backdrop of the Leigh Sports Village and Wigan Life Centre schemes. The council's ruling cabinet heard on 9 June that both venues attract less visitors than others in the area and that both are in need of "significant financial investment".
Wigan Council cabinet member for leisure Chris Ready said: "The easy option for the council would be to dispose of the two pools but we believe that it is important to look at any ways that we could possibly keep them within our communities."
