Woman dies and man injured in diving centre incident

By Tom Walker    17 Nov 2014
The former quarry offers divers depths of up to 80m (260ft) / National Diving and Activity Centre

A woman has died and a man is seriously ill following an incident at a diving centre in Gloucestershire on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to the National Diving and Activity Centre in Chepstow on Saturday to attend to the two divers at the former quarry.

Both were taken to hospital, where the woman later died. The man has been receiving treatment at a decompression unit.

The diving centre is located at the former Dayhouse Quarry, a source of limestone, which was flooded in 1996.

It is a popular site for divers as it offers depths of up to 80m (260ft) and is also used for diver training.
