Work starts on Ilkeston facility revamp
A turf-cutting ceremony has been held to mark the start of work on a £2.3m renovation of Victoria Park Leisure Centre in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.
Erewash Borough Council (EBC) is behind the programme of improvements, which are to be carried out by Wates Construction. New facilities will include village-style changing areas; a new sauna and steamroom; a new multi-purpose room on the second floor; and upgraded disabled facilities.
A new reception and café area will also be provided following the completion of the scheme, which is due later this year. The complex will remain open to the public. EBC lead member for culture and leisure Mike Wallis said: "The local community and staff will all benefit from this investment which will bring some of the best possible facilities and services to Ilkeston."
