Work starts on North Ayrshire Skate Park
Building work has begun on the £450,000 North Ayrshire Skate Park development.
The sustainable facility, called Revolutions, will be situated adjacent to Auchenharvie Leisure Centre. It will be the largest park of its kind in the UK and is scheduled to open in the spring 2005.
A collaboration between public, private and voluntary organisations, the North Ayrshire Skate Group will manage and supervise the park, with support from North Ayrshire Leisure and the local authority.
There will be a 20p entrance fee for registered users of the floodlit park and vending machines and toilets will be provided.
Robert Paterson of North Ayrshire Skate Group, said: “This is a fantastic day for the Skate Group and for all the young people who skate in the west of Scotland.”
A North Ayrshire Leisure spokesperson added: “We are delighted that the hard work of North Ayrshire Skate Group has been rewarded and that North Ayrshire has a facility for young people that is second to none.” Details: www.naleisure.co.uk
