York stadium project to move forward?
Plans for the development of a new community sports stadium in York, which will provide a minimum capacity of 6,000 seats, could move forward at a local council meeting next week.
Members of the City of York Council's (CYC) cabinet will consider progressing the project to the next phase, which will develop proposals for the venue's delivery and operation.
A business case has been drawn up to demonstrate sufficient funding exists for the scheme, which will incorporate a stadium and county-standard athletics facilities.
The venue will create a centre of community activity and cater for a number of sports, as well as a home for York City Football Club and York City Knights rugby league team.
If approved on 6 December, the next stage of the business plan will allow the public and key stakeholders to help shape the design and range of facilities as part of the development.
CYC cabinet member for leisure, culture and social inclusion Sonja Crisp said: "This is a considerable milestone in the Community Stadium Project being delivered for the people of York.
"[The project will create] a sporting destination which will benefit professional, amateur and community sports clubs across the city, for generations to come."
