£20,000 facelift for Chesterfield tennis courts

By Luke Tuchscherer    02 Sep 2010

Tennis courts at Queen's Park Annexe in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, have reopened after a £20,000 revamp.

Improvements included installing a new macadam surface with coloured court markings, drainage, new tennis posts and nets and repairs to fencing.

The improvements to the tennis courts were funded from a £10,000 grant from Viridor Credits, with the remainder funded by Chesterfield Borough Council.

David Stone, lead member for Safe, Healthy and Active Communities at the council, said: "Tennis is a very popular sport so we’re pleased we’ve been able to provide funding to improve the courts.  We hope existing and new users will enjoy playing tennis at Queen’s Park and who knows there may be a new Andy Murray in the making!”
