£4.5m Manchester stadium plans move forward
FC United of Manchester's (FCUM) plans to build a new £4.5m stadium and community facilities at the Ronald Johnson Playing Fields in Moston have taken a step forward.
Planning permission has already been approved by Manchester City Council (MCC), with a feasibility study having now concluded that the proposed site is suitable for development.
FCUM is working alongside Moston Juniors Football Club to deliver the scheme, which is to include a 5,000-capacity venue with a full-size artificial pitch and two junior grass pitches.
A new landscaped public space for community and school events and a clubhouse to boast multi-use spaces, such as educational facilities, are also included in the proposals.
MCC executive member for culture and leisure Mike Amesbury said: "This important development will deliver significant social and economic benefits to the community in Moston and North Manchester."
A final business plan will now be submitted to the council by FCUM. If approved, a 125-year lease currently held by Moston Juniors Football Club for the site will be transferred.
