£10m Jubilee 2 facility officially opens
Former Olympians Nick Gillingham and David Moorcroft have helped officially open the new £10m Jubilee 2 leisure complex in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.
Morgan Sindall built the new facility on behalf of Newcastle Borough Council (NBC), with Nottinghamshire-based architects William Saunders Partnership behind its design.
Jubilee 2, which has also been developed in partnership with Sport England and NHS North Staffordshire, first opened its doors to local residents last month.
Facilities include a 25m, eight-lane swimming pool with Colorado timing system and seating for 100 spectators, as well as a 12m x 10m training pool with moveable floor.
The Club Lyme fitness suite offers 100 pieces of Technogym equipment, while Jubilee 2 also boasts an aqua sauna area with a steamroom; monsoon shower; and an aromatherapy room.
NBC leader Stephen Sweeney said: "The fact that our country is hosting the Olympics this year may well be the catalyst for lots of people to try and lead a healthier and active life.
"Jubilee2 will undoubtedly contribute to that locally by ensuring we have the very best facilities available for local residents to use."
