£700k funding for Welsh botanic gardens
The Welsh Assembly Government has agreed to provide £700,000 in revenue support to the National Botanic Gardens of Wales following a value-for-money review.
Subject to a number of conditions, the Carmarthenshire attraction will receive the funding in the 2011-12 financial year in light of the independent study. It is expected that the botanic gardens will be required to develop a capital management and major maintenance plan and to extend its education outreach scheme.
Welsh heritage minister Alun Ffred Jones said: "This level of funding, as has been recommended by the recent independent review, will help the gardens to develop further. "Moving forward, our funding will depend on the Garden producing a sustainable business plan and on it meeting a range of challenging targets."
In addition to the Welsh Assembly Government support, Carmarthenshire County Council has also agreed to provide £60,000 of revenue funding in 2011-12 and the following two financial years.
