£70m Albert Hall revamp complete
The eight-year long, £70m refurbishment at the Royal Albert Hall (RAH) has been completed.
Improvements to the famous concert venue include two new vestibules, revamped seating, better access for disabled guests, ventilation to the auditorium and additional lavatories and bars.
There has also been restoration work on the famous organ and a four-storey basement has been dug out under the 1871 foundations, which will house new dressing rooms, a car park and an access route for stage equipment.
Funding for the project has come mainly from the Arts Council and Heritage Lottery Funds that combined to provide £40.4m for the scheme.
The rest of the funding, around £28m, has come from the Hall’s seat holders, donations from the public and the venue’s operating surpluses. Details: www.royalalberthall.com
