£95m leisure and observation tower for Birmingham
Plans to build the UK’s first VerTiPlex, the VTP200, have been announced recently by developers Pettifer Estates.
Scheduled for completion by 2010 and with an estimated cost of £95m, the 200 meter-tall leisure and observation tower has been designed by international architects RTKL and will be located next to Millennium Point in the Eastside Regeneration area of Birmingham.
Offering 360° views of the city and the surrounding region, the VerTiPlex will incorporate café bars, restaurants and a hotel in its design, as well as three rides – Flight Trainer, Giant Drop and Seesaw – and four activities: Walk of Fear, Sky Jump, Bungee Jump and Climb to the Top.
There will also be a revolving glass Gyro Tower that will rise to within ten meters of the tower top as it turns.
Richard Pawley, head of the operational team for the VTP200 said of the tower: “It will appeal to everyone, from families with young children to ultimate adventure-seekers and corporate groups looking for original client entertainment.”
Overlooking the proposed City Park, another development planned as part of the £6bn– Eastside regeneration programme, the leisure tower will be accessible from the cities Bullring and from Birmingham New Street Station.
