Pulse Fitness modernises Leiston Leisure Centre in £4m redevelopment

By Dean Fox    21 Nov 2019

The Leiston Leisure Centre, owned by East Suffolk Council, reopened recently following a £4m redevelopment designed and implemented by Pulse Fitness.

Designed to encourage more people to become active, the investment has a spacious new fitness suite, two new dance studios, cycling studio, squash courts and main sports hall. It also includes the swimming pool, reception and soft play area, as well as a brand-new addition to the centre: a thermal suite with sauna and steamroom, feature showers and relaxation areas.

Since reopening, the centre has received a warm reception from the community with more than 42,000 visits to the facility so far this year. The new pool has also seen 19,000 swims and in the first month of reopening, the refurbished gym welcomed more than 5,000 visitors.

The refurbishment includes a total upgrade of all the kit in the centre, including a 60-station state-of-the-art fitness suite with the full range of Pulse cardio machines, including a Concept II Rower, Ski Erg and a Pulse Curved Treadmill. Members can also enjoy the facility’s new cycling studio which has been kitted out with the latest bikes from Pulse.

The installation of Pulse Fitness’ superior H Range Strength Line is complemented by an extensive free weights area and bespoke functional training rig.

“We’re really proud of our partnership with Leiston Leisure Centre,” says Matt Johnson, executive director of Pulse Design and Build. “It showcases what can be achieved within the parameters of an existing facility, all on time and on budget. By combining a mix of new build and remodelling, we were able to integrate cutting edge facilities into existing spaces. It’s a real testament to our team’s versatility and ability.”

“We’re really pleased with the work carried out at Leiston Leisure Centre and have had some very positive feedback from the people using the new facilities,'' said Tim Snook, leisure contract manager at East Suffolk Council. “This is the second redevelopment in our Leisure Redevelopment Programme, and the partnership we have established with Pulse through this process has been invaluable. One of our key priorities is to get more people active, and we hope we’ve created a facility that will be enjoyed by the local community for years to come.”
