McCardle retires from sporta
Mike McCardle has announced that he is retiring from his position as executive secretary at sporta, the representative body for UK leisure and cultural trusts, after five years in the role.
During McCardle's tenure, the organisation has grown substantially to incorporate more than 100 member trusts responsible for the management of more than 920 sites on behalf of local authorities across the country. Meanwhile, McCardle has also overseen the relaunch of the sporta brand, as well as retaining the services of public affairs company Pall Mall Consult in a bid to increase the organisation's representation in Westminster.
McCardle, who was previously managing director at Stevenage Leisure (SLL) for five years, said: "I will continue to remain involved with sporta on an ad hoc basis to ensure continuity and a smooth transition. However, my main aim for the future is to enjoy my retirement and reduce my handicap on the golf course." Craig McAteer, sporta chair, added: "Mike's contribution to sporta over the last five years has been substantial. He has helped modernise and reinvigorate the organisation, ensuring it can continue to effectively represent its members for a number of years to come."
