Raison d'Etre reveal the formula for 'perfect' spas
Ian Bell, senior project manager at global spa consultancy and wellness 'Think Tank' Raison d'Etre (RDE), has revealed details of the formula the company uses in order to create the perfect spa design.
When creating the 'perfect' spa design, Bell argues that there are five key factors to consider: industry KPIs, space requirements, creative use of the edge, balance of guest needs and operational needs, as well as timelines.
By taking into account these factors designers can infer the feasibility and size of the spa, as well as the overall space needed for both the front of house and back of house facilities. Meanwhile, by considering the 'edges' of the spa, or as Bell puts it: "The crossing points where a guest comes from one world into the other", designers can ensure that the spa is seamlessly integrated into its surrounding environment, ensuring that the spa experience won't be negatively impacted.
In addition, designers should bear in mind two objectives: 'flow of energy' through the spa and 'from pattern to detail'. 'From pattern to detail' encourages designers to bear in mind the overall concept and flow of the spa throughout, as it informs all of the smaller details including products used, music and the placement of light panels and plug sockets. While 'flow of energy' ensures that both the staff and guests journey throughout the spa 'flows'.
