A funding crisis that has delayed the start of the football season in Argentina appears to have been resolved after the government stepped in to acquire broadcasting rights from the Argentine Football Association (AFA).

The multi-million pound agreement, which will run for a ten-year period and will see live football made available on terrestrial channels for free, is reported to be more than double the amount paid by private sector companies as part of a previous agreement. AFA president Julio Grondona said: "The national government has given us their support. This support imposes obligations. And these obligations mean that we start to move a new order."
